Asus Zenfone Zoom, the device was launched back in January 2016. Yes we know it looks little bit late to review this device, but we think this is perfect time to uncover this device as we all know that initial reviews might miss out some important features or problem with the device and so we took time to examine the device and after competing the deep research, we have now came up with detailed review for our viewers. The device was launched in India as one of the best flagship device from Asus. The device packed with some awesome and high-end features which we will read below. Well as the name says, this device is marketed as best zooming camera, and also highlighted as best camera Smartphone from Asus. Let us talk about this device in deeply.

The Asus Zenfone Zoom come packed with a stunning black box, which feels a bit premium. At the top of the box you will find a circle which is indicating at the rear camera of the device, along with Zenfone Zoom Logo, nothing more mentioned on the box except some EMI info at back. Inside the box you will get some user guide manuals, a simple Micro USB charger, and a premium headphone along with some extra ear masks. The box has a band which can be tied to your wrist for better grip and the phone will not fall.

Built and Design Review

The design quality of the device feels pretty solid in hands. The Asus Zenfone zoom at the corners have chamfered metal edges which is well furnished, if we look at back, it has some kind of leather texture, which feels kind of artificial plastic texture, but from Asus it was clearly stated that it’s kind of premium leather, and at the back there is a big circled shape camera welcoming you, in first impression it will feels like some high-end camera for sure. Just below at the back panel you can find the speaker holes, and little bit above a Asus logo. At the top off the device you will be getting a 3.5mm headphone jack along with a microphone, at the bottom bellow of the smartphone you can find a micro USB port to charge the device or to connect the device with PC or laptops whatever you wish.

The smartphone feels pretty thick in hands, from our side it could have made more thinner, if they tried well, it has given 3 capacitive buttons outside to the screen, which will let you to utilize the full screen. The device Weighs around 185 g and Dimensions included 158.9×78.84×11.95 mm.

Screen and Display review

The Asus Zenfone Zoom sports a 5.5 (1080 x 1920 pixels) inches screen display that is 65.9% screen-to-body ratio, feels as a big bezel phone, and now a days we are seeing lots more device with less bezel lees which we call as the bezel less devices, it has a 403 ppi pixel density. For the protection it has given Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which will protect you from stretched and makes you screen solid, as we have tested it can survive little bit scratches easily. The screen to body ratio is quite low which is little disappointing, moreover weighing a smartphone at 185 gram is very very poor considering the most of the manufacturers are looking for ways to keep the weights below 150 gram.

The screen comes with 16M colors, the viewing angle of the device is good, colours productions feels very decent, but the main thing we noticed with this device is its display quality and display brightness is not that good which we expect in high-end devices. The daylight visibility of display is good.

UI Interface Review

The smartphone runs on Android 5.0 with its own UI. The best part of this custom UI is, it provides you lots more customization. It has very much customizations that you never expected. The look and feel of this UI is just like all other Android running devices, but when you start discovering, you will get tons of new other customization options. There is a theme store from where you can download the theme which suits you best, you can control icon sizes, icon distances, also you control the the scroll effect. The Zenfone zoom come with  lots more preloaded app, like True caller, TripAdvisor, Puffin, ZenTalk, Clean Master, Amazon Kindle etc. The device is also packed with a power saving inbuilt app which is pretty good in finding wastage of uses and shutting them down.

If we talk about the experience of the UI Interface than we can say it is good, you are getting everything that you can expect to have in a high end smartphone.

Asus Zenfone Zoom Performance and Hardware Review.

Asus ZenFone Zoom is boosted by a 64-bit Z3590 Intel Super Quad-core CPU processor clocked at 2.5GHz, alongside the device is powered by a massive 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM. For storage it has 128GB of internal storage, from 2018 you will be getting around 115 to 120GB available space.

The performance of the device is good, we have very smooth experince with this device. We have tested some really heavy games Like Asphalt, Gangstar Vegas that takes around 2GB storage and some other games for ex, Dead Trigger 2, NFS no limits, and if we talk about the experince of the games, we can so one word is smooth somewhere we little bit noticed lags in Gangstar Vegas, but all other games are very smooth with no single lags, graphical experince with the gaming is also pretty crisp and clear. The 4GB RAM and Intel Processor, done their jobs in this smartphone, videos performance in this device is awesome too.

The device comes with 3000mAh battery, the battery performance is pretty satisfying if your uses are average then it can last long for a day. it comes with  the battery which  is non removable , and if you are a heavy user, you have to charge it twice in a day. For the connectivity it comes with single 4G SIM support, the call quality experience is good and  the voice is pretty clear. If we look at the overall performance and hardware sections yes Asus has done good job this time.

Camera Review

The Asus ZenFone Zoom comes with a 13-megapixel PixelMaster rear camera, if we talk about the features the camera comes with 10-element lens (developed by Hoya), optical image stabilization (OIS) with up to four stops, and one best feature the Asus’ laser autofocus technology that is said to zero in on objects in just 0.03 seconds. The device has many other camera features like dual-LED True Tone LED flash light and the camera app that supports long exposures till up to 32 seconds. The device can capture 52 megapixels images, and that is not over the camera app contains many modifications modes like beauty HDR etc, the app keeps suggesting you the best mode you can prefer according to the conditions.

The Asus Zenfone Zoom, branded as the best zoom camera ever,  but the camera is not that good as we have expected and to be honest, the zooming feature is not much awesome as expected, but yes it will not disappoint you, 3X Zoom will provide you more zooming capabilities than other competitive devices in the market, via settings option you can expand the 3X zoom till 12X zoom which is really amazing to see that much zoom in a smartphone. In the front it has a 5MP front camera which can take decent selfies and comes with various modes, we have attached some samples below you can check it out.
